Today I broke down and bought a container of strawberries. For 1LB it was $5.39!!!!!!!!!!! Holy F! Although they were organic, so that’s about right. I pretty much stopped eating strawberries when they started using methyl iodide as a suitable form of pesticide. No thanks!
I plan on using the berries for a small batch jam, but I think I am going to grow my own this year. I tried last year and only got 2 berries and an army of ants on my porch. They were the best berries I ever had.
I think I will grow them inside this time. I was looking around online for tips. I garden a bit, mostly herbs and tomatoes, and I kill everything else on accident. I wish I was born with a green thumb, but I’m not. I found a tip for fertilizer, used coffee grounds. Unfortunately I do not drink coffee, but all the guys at work do.
I’ll just collect those grounds and recycle them in my soil along with some egg shells. I don’t compost, but I’d like too. I don’t have any space where I live to put a compost container.
I hope I grow so many strawberries that I get sick at the sight of them by the end of season! Thats pretty much impossible though.
